Palace on WheelsPalace on wheels is the first luxury train offering from India to the world to experience the country's royalty on railway tracks. This luxury train chugs around the castles, forts and palaces of Rajasthan and offers travelers a great way to experience plush royalty of Maharajas and Maharanis. Even the coaches and coupes of this train have a history of their own. They were previously used by the Nawabs and East India officials for their overland journey in India. Tour duration : 7 Nights / 8 Days Places Covered : New Delhi - Jaipur - Sawai Madhopur - Chittorgarh - Udaipur - Jaisalmer - Jodhpur - Bharatpur - Agra - Delhi Detailed itinerary: Day 1 : Wednesday - New Delhi Dep. 18.30 hrs. Reporting Time 16.00 hrs. This journey of dreams begins at the Delhi's Safdarjung Railway Station where the guests are welcomed with a warm, traditional reception before the Palace-on-Wheels chugs out into the night for a week-long luxury joyride through the Palaces of Rajasthan. Day 2 : Thursday - Jaipur Departure 23.30 hrs. Arrival 03.00 hrs. The first halt of the Palace on Wheels Luxury Train is Jaipur, the gateway city to Royal Rajasthan. Popularly known as the Pink City, this city was established by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, in 1727 A.D. Currently, the city strings many heritage structures and gives the Palace on Wheels tour a seasoned beginning. An air-conditioned coach takes you to the Hawa Mahal or the Breeze Palace, which is a remarkable five storied building in the shape of a crown. Located on the street, this pink lattice honey comb structure was erected for the royal ladies to observe the hustle-bustle of royal street life, without disclosing their identity. This is followed by an excursion towards honey-hued Amber Fort, where elephant ride on the hillock will give you a feeling of conquering the castle. Lunch at a Five Star property followed by visit to City Palace Museum and Observatory called Jantar Mantar. Day 3 : Friday - Sawai Madhopur Departure 02.00 hrs (next day i.e. on Saturday) Arrival 16.00 hrs Sawai Madhopur, the city named after its founder Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I, is the second halt on luxury Palace on Wheels Train tour. Famous for its wild side, the city is the gateway for Ranthambore National Park, a protected natural territory where one can hear a number of roaring tigers, besides other wild companions. This 392 sq. kms territory is considered one of the best in India for observing and photographing tigers in their natural habitats. Along with this, the park is the haven for more than 300 species of wildlife kingdom. The hyena, chinkara, jackal, fox, rate are among the famous wild members of the family. The city can also be scouted for its exclusive toys, ethnic ornaments and costumes. After coming back to the luxury Palace on Wheels coach, you leave for Chittorgarh, wherein you will get an opportunity to observe the colorful countryside passing by in the daylight. Day 3 : Friday - Sawai Madhopur Arrival 05.30 hrs. Departure 10.30 hrs. After lunch on board, you reach Chittorgarh where you can still experience the legends of love and chivalry steeped in its culture. The scars of battles and the tales of bravery of Rana Pratap and his horse Chetak can be felt around the Chittorgarh Fort. These folklores of pride and honor towards homeland will resonate in your mind as you advance towards Udaipur. Day 4 : Saturday - Udaipur The lake city of Udaipur was founded and named on Maharana Udai Singh of Mewar, after the Sisodia clan was washed away by the Mughals in 1559 AD. The white marble palaces of Jag Niwas and Jag Mandir rising from the blue waters of Lake Pichhola lend this city a mesmerizing dreamy setting. After lunch at a Five Star Hotel, visit the City Palace. Day 5 : Sunday - Jaisalmer Departure 23.45 hrs. Arrival 09.15 hrs. Jaisalmer, founded by Rawal Jaisal is the heart of Rajasthani deserts. The honey hued sandstone fort is an imposing structure of Jaisalmer around which the city is laid out. Famous for its Havelis and mansions, this deserted city is also famous for its mirror work, fine pattu shawls, embroidered articles, wooden boxes, silver Jewellery, etc. After on board lunch, experience the exciting camel ride on the Sam sand dunes, before sipping the evening tea. Enjoy the delightful dinner and cultural program at a Five Star Hotel. Day 6 : Monday - Jodhpur Departure 15.30 hrs. Arrival 07.00 hrs. Following morning experience the cool blue hues of Jodhpur. The city lined with high stone walls with several bastions is laid artistically around the famous Mehrangarh Fort. The grand palaces inside this fort complex - Sheesh Mahal, Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal and Daulat Khana are impressive examples of architectural brilliance. Near the fort complex lies Jaswant Thada featuring a group of white marble royal cenotaphs. After lunch at a Palace Hotel, return to the Palace-on-Wheels. Shopping session in Jodhpur includes scouting for exquisite handicrafts including the famous embroidered shoes, metal curios, breeches, silverware, paintings and tie-n-dye fabrics. Day 7 : Tuesday - Bharatpur / Agra Departure 08:45 hrs. Arrival 05.00 hrs. Bharatpur In the morning, the Palace on Wheels train arrives in Bharatpur - the Bird haven. After breakfast, visit the world famous bird sanctuary, Keoladeo Ghana National Park, the nesting place for thousands of chirping birds including Egrets, Siberian Cranes, migratory Water Fowl and other unique birds. You will also find the rarest migratory birds during your half day stint here. Agra Departure 23.00 hrs. Arrival 10:30 hrs . On arrival, visit Agra Fort and after lunch explore the tomb tribute in white, Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world. A pristine monument of eternal love, this marble structure was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal. You can even pick the famous marble inlay showpieces featuring Pietra Dura technique, leather goods, Petha sweet and jewellery. Day 8 : Wednesday, Delhi Arrival 0600 hrs Arrive Safdarjung Railway Station, Delhi. Morning meal on board.
